Tres Sabores: Wines with Soul

Featured Regions & Wines

There are wines that check all the boxes, and then there are wines that feel like someone actually made them. That’s what keeps bringing us back to Tres Sabores.

Located in Rutherford in Napa Valley, Tres Sabores is a small, organic farm and winery led by Julie Johnson. Everything about it feels deliberate without being overly polished. It is Napa, but not in the way people often expect. There is restraint, there is personality, and there is a sense that the wines are coming from the land and the people behind them, not from a formula.

That shows up clearly across the lineup. The Petite Sirah is one of those wines that has a presence. It is dark, structured, and layered, but not heavy. There is energy to it. It holds its shape, but still feels alive in the glass. It is the kind of bottle you open when you want something with depth, something that stays with you a little.

Then there is the Picpoul, which shifts everything in the best way. Bright, clean, and incredibly refreshing, it has that snap of acidity that makes you want another sip right away. It feels effortless. This is the bottle you open when you do not want to think too much, when you just want something that works and works well.

¿Por qué no? sits somewhere in between. It does not try to fit neatly into a category, which is part of what makes it so enjoyable. It is a blend that feels a little playful, a little unexpected, and very drinkable. This is one I like to bring to the table because it usually sparks a little conversation.

The Zinfandel feels grounded in exactly where it comes from. It carries that Napa warmth, but it is balanced. It is not overdone. There is fruit, there is structure, and there is a sense of ease that makes it feel right at home with food or on its own.

What ties all of these wines together is not a style so much as a feeling. They feel honest. They feel considered. They feel like wines you want to come back to. That is what we are always looking for. Not just something that tastes good in the moment, but something that fits into real life. Something you open on a weeknight or bring to a table with friends and think, yes, this is exactly what I wanted.

Tres Sabores has a way of doing that quietly. And those are the kinds of wines we tend to keep around.
