Pop & Feel Project

I’ve always found it easy to have fun. I’m the adventurer, the gatherer, the “let’s make it happen” person. But lately, I’ve noticed a shift. I’ve been searching for that spark of real joy, the kind that sneaks up on you, makes your shoulders drop, and reminds you how good it feels to be alive.

Everywhere I look, there’s a lot of noise. The news, social media, even everyday conversations can feel heavy. There’s so much focus on what’s wrong that it’s easy to forget how much good still exists. I want to acknowledge the hard things, and I think it’s very important to do so, but I also want to lift the energy where I can. Maybe you’ve been feeling that too.

I’m grateful, truly. I have so much to love and be thankful for. But something still feels a little out of sync. There’s been this quiet restlessness that’s hard to shake, and I think a lot of it comes from how disconnected we’ve all become. Studies show that friendship is declining, loneliness is rising, and I read that only about four percent of Americans attended a party last year. Four percent! Somewhere along the line, getting together stopped being a habit and turned into something we plan months out, or worse, forget to do altogether. But connection isn’t optional; it’s essential. And it’s something we can bring back.

So I’ve been thinking about how to make space for more lightness. How to find little sparks of joy in everyday life instead of waiting for them to show up. Not the big, dramatic kind, just the small, intentional moments that remind us who we are.

Maybe it’s opening that bottle of wine you’ve been saving for a special occasion (because honestly, sometimes a random Saturday is the occasion). Maybe it’s music in the kitchen, calling a friend you’ve been missing, or sitting outside with your coffee and letting the sun hit your face before the day begins. These tiny pauses matter. They bring us back to ourselves.

Wine has always been one of my favorite ways to do that, to connect, to slow down, to learn about different cultures, to share stories and experiences, and to bring people together. Throw a party. It doesn’t have to be fancy or planned to perfection. Make a few appetizers and have everyone bring their favorite bottle of wine, and you provide the space. Invite people who make you laugh, who fill the room with warmth, who remind you that life is meant to be shared.

Joy doesn’t only live in big gatherings though. It’s in the quiet moments too: hiking without your phone, really playing with your kids/grandkids, visiting your dad for donuts, keeping fresh flowers in the kitchen, listening to an old favorite album, saying yes to a spontaneous coffee date, cooking dinner a little slower, smiling at someone you don’t know.

Mel Robbins shared on her podcast six ways to add more joy to your life, a message passed along to me by my dear friend and fellow fun-seeker, Erin. What stayed with me most is the reminder that joy doesn’t just appear out of nowhere. We create it. We look for it. We make room for it, even when life feels messy or uncertain.

Life is worth living, fully, presently, and with heart. Fun isn’t frivolous; it’s fuel. It’s connection. It’s how we remind ourselves that good things still exist, even when the world feels noisy.

Here at Lake District Wine Co., we do our best to bring people together and host joyful events, and we love seeing the smiles, laughter, and shared glasses that fill those moments. But I think there’s always room for more, more joy, more connection, more reasons to gather.

So here’s where I want to start: let’s make this a group effort. Let’s Pop & Feel.

I’m calling it Pop & Feel: a wine happiness revolution. It’s simple. Open the bottle. Share a photo of you with it, or just the bottle itself. Tell me how it made you feel, what the experience was like, who you shared it with, or if it was a quiet moment just for you, and let’s keep the joy moving. Post it on social media, tag each other, text it to me, or email it, whatever feels right. If you post on social media and use this hashtag #ThePopAndFeelProject, we can all search it and find joy and new bottles to try!

And you can join from anywhere. Whether you’re here in Michigan or across the world, this is for you. Because joy travels, especially when it’s shared.

I want to see your joy. I want to see the wine bottles that help you find it. Let’s keep it going and remind each other that joy is still here, alive and well, one glass at a time.
