There are a lot of places you can buy wine. That’s never been the point for us.
We were lucky enough to purchase Lake District Wine Co. from Ric, who brought an incredible depth of knowledge, especially when it came to the corners and crooks of French and Italian wine that most people never get to explore. That collection, and the thoughtfulness behind it, gave us a really special foundation to build from. Since then, our goal has been to carry that same mindset forward while expanding the scope, growing in diversity, in perspective, and in connection.
When we took over, we weren’t thinking about how to stock shelves with the bottles everyone already knows. We were thinking about how we wanted it to feel when you walked through the door. Less transactional, more conversational. Less about grabbing something and leaving, more about staying a minute, asking questions, discovering something you didn’t even know you were looking for.
We don’t believe in carrying wines just because they’re recognizable or easy to sell. There’s enough of that everywhere else. What excites us is finding bottles with a point of view, wines that reflect where they come from, how they were made, and why they matter. Sometimes that means a region you’ve never heard of. Sometimes it is a grape you can’t pronounce. Sometimes it is just a really well made, honest wine that overdelivers for the price. The through line is always the same. It has to feel worth opening.
Curation is a word that gets thrown around a lot, but for us, it is very real. We taste constantly. We question everything we bring in. We think about who will love it, when they will open it, what they might pair it with, or who they will share it with. We are not building walls of options. We are building a collection that makes sense, that evolves, and that stays interesting.
We also care deeply about being serious about wine without ever taking ourselves too seriously. You can be building out your cellar, studying at a high level, or just picking up a bottle for dinner on a Tuesday. Whether you are a seasoned collector, a sommelier, brand new to wine, or somewhere in between, we will meet you where you are. We believe in education, but not at the expense of enjoyment. The goal is not to make wine feel complicated. It is to make it feel more accessible, more engaging, and ultimately more fun.
At the same time, while we are constantly exploring wines from around the world, it is just as important to us to support what is happening right here at home. We are incredibly lucky to have some of the best wines being made in our own backyard, and many of those producers are not just peers, but friends. Supporting local wineries and sharing their work is a meaningful part of what we do, and something we care deeply about.
And just as important as what is on the shelf is what is happening around it. Wine, at its best, brings people together. That is where this really comes to life for us. Our events, our classes, our club, our Friday afternoons that turn into evenings, the conversations that stretch a little longer than planned. It is not about knowing everything. It is about being curious, being open, and feeling comfortable enough to ask what should I try next?
Wine is meant to be shared. It is one of those simple, everyday joys that somehow holds a lot more beneath the surface. It connects history, geology, food, culture, and geography in a way that feels both expansive and deeply personal. You can open a bottle and be transported somewhere else, or just as easily be right where you are, around a table with people you care about. That balance is what makes it so compelling.
For us, it is not just about what is in the glass. It is about what happens around it. The stories, the conversations, the small moments that turn into lasting ones. That is the part we keep coming back to, and the part we are always trying to create space for.At the end of the day, yes, we sell wine. But what we are really trying to build is something a lot bigger than that. A place where people feel welcome, where discovery feels easy, and where there is always something new to open, talk about, and come back for.
That is what makes Lake District Wine Co different. And it is why we love what we do.
